Asleep At The Wheel, the famed
western-swing, boogie, and roots-music outfit, hit the popular scene in 1974 when “Choo Choo Ch’B
oogie” from their second album became their first chart single.
In the past decade alone, Asleep at the Wheel leader, Ray Benson was named the official
Texas State Musician. They sold out the Kennedy Center, with the President & First Lady
attending. They were inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame, appeared 11 times on “Austin City
Limits,” and swept the Austin Music Awards for: Best Band, Best Country Band, Best Acoustic Guitar,
Best Male Vocals, Best Record Producer and Best Songwriter.
